1. Asean guidelines to eliminate forced labour in the works, says ex-MP

ASEAN is developing guidelines to eliminate forced labour, according to Charles Santiago, co-chair of the ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR). This initiative aligns with the region's commitment to international labour standards and aims to strengthen protections for workers across member states. The guidelines will focus on prevention, enforcement, and victim support, reinforcing ASEAN's dedication to eradicating forced labour.

2. Get relevant and timely actionable people insights: Best employee feedback and recognition platforms 2024

The HR Vendors of the Year 2024 in Singapore and Malaysia recognized top employee feedback and recognition platforms. In Singapore, EngageRocket secured Gold, followed by Qualtrics (Silver) and Mercer Singapore (Bronze). In Malaysia, Budaya earned Gold, with Maslow Trainers & Consultants taking Silver, and Accendo Technologies receiving Bronze.

3. Over two million low-skilled foreign workers in the country

As of September 30, 2024, Malaysia employed 2,470,781 low-skilled foreign workers across various sectors: manufacturing (771,327), construction (698,407), services (448,572), plantation (266,600), agriculture (183,086), domestic helpers (102,037), and mining and quarrying (752). The government aims to cap foreign workers at 15% of the total workforce, aligning with the 12th Malaysia Plan.

4. Studying flexible work arrangements

The Malaysian Human Resources Ministry has initiated a six-month study, led by TalentCorp, to evaluate the impact of flexible working arrangements (FWA) on local companies. This initiative aims to enhance work-life balance, reduce traffic congestion, and address mental health concerns. As of October, 2,826 organizations and 565,210 employees have engaged in FWA workshops.
