1. Glove maker says supplier may be involved in forced labour practices

 

Glove manufacturer Kossan Rubber Industries suspects a local supplier of being involved in forced labour practices after an audit revealed indicators such as retention of identity documents and contract substitution. Kossan has since suspended new orders with the supplier and launched a full investigation. The company affirmed its commitment to ethical sourcing and compliance with labour standards.

2. Sex jokes may constitute sexual harassment at workplace, says court

 

The Sarawak Industrial Court has ruled that sexual jokes in the workplace may constitute sexual harassment. The court emphasized that normalizing such jokes is inappropriate and can create a hostile work environment. This ruling aligns with Malaysia's legal framework, where sexual jokes are considered obscene acts under Section 509 of the Penal Code, punishable by up to five years in prison, a fine, or both.
