1. ‘Thank you, Malaysia’: Immigration offices see surge of foreign nationals seeking voluntary repatriation with RM300-RM500 fines ahead of Dec 31 cutoff
As the December 31 deadline approaches, Malaysia's Immigration Department reports a significant increase in foreign nationals seeking voluntary repatriation under the Migrant Repatriation Programme. Participants are fined RM500 for overstaying or entering without valid documents, and RM300 for violating pass conditions. The programme, running from March 1 to December 31, 2024, allows undocumented migrants to return home without prosecution.

3. Number of employed persons up 0.2% in October
In October 2024, Malaysia's employment rose by 0.2% to 16.72 million, while unemployment decreased by 0.7% to 551,400, maintaining a 3.2% unemployment rate. The labour force participation rate stood at 70.5%. Employees constituted 74.9% of the employed, with own-account workers increasing by 0.3% to 3.10 million.

4. Malaysia's unemployment stable in October, labour force in 'optimistic' position
In October 2024, Malaysia's unemployment rate remained stable at 3.2%, with the number of unemployed individuals slightly decreasing to 551,400. The labour force expanded by 0.1% to 17.27 million, and the labour force participation rate held steady at 70.5%. Employment growth was observed across all sectors, notably in services, manufacturing, construction, mining, and agriculture.

5. Settlement ends guard’s 16-year battle over dismissal by US embassy
After a 16-year legal battle over his 2008 dismissal by the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, former security guard L. Subramaniam has reached an out-of-court settlement. The embassy agreed to a "fair sum" without admitting liability, leading Subramaniam to discontinue his appeal at the Court of Appeal.
